Ram softball team at 4-12 on season, battling illness and injuries

The Greene County softball team lost to Roland-Story 12-4 on Monday, June 14. A second game was on the schedule, but due to illness and injury to the Rams pitchers, it was forfeited to the Norsemen. Tuesday’s game with ADM was also forfeited for the same reasons.

GC was back in action Wednesday, taking a 6-5 victory over South Hamilton in Jewell.

GC is 4-12 on the season, 3-6 in Heart of Iowa Conference standings. They started the week with a game at Prairie City-Monroe on Monday and hosted Manson-Northwest Webster on Tuesday. Thursday the Rams entertain Saydel at 7:30 pm and travel to Jewell Saturday for a tournament. They will meet West Marshall at 10:30 am and Southeast Valley at noon.

Roland-Story 12 ~ Rams 4

Roland-Story was up 9-0 before the Rams got on the scoreboard. 

Carmyn Paup cracked a double to drive in two runs and Emma Stream’s three base hits gave the Rams two more. Alexa Peters added two singles while Paige Teeples and Olivia Shannon each had one. The Rams had three errors and left eight runners on base.

Emma Hoyle worked the mound despite a noticeable limp. She faced 33 batters, allowing 12 runs, nine earned, on 11 hits, walked eight and struck out five. She was unable to throw for the second game of the doubleheader. Due to illness in their back up pitcher, the Rams forfeited the second game.

ADM ~ Rams forfeit

Because of illness and injury in the Ram pitching corps, Greene County forfeited their game to Adel-DeSoto-Minburn on Tuesday.

Rams 6 ~ S Hamilton 5

The Rams were back on the diamond Wednesday in Jewell where they picked up a 6-5 win over South Hamilton. Greene County got off to a quick start, scoring two runs in the first inning. The Hawks tied the contest with two in the third.  The game stayed knotted until the seventh when the Rams caught fire to score four runs. SH put three on the board before GC ended the threat and preserved the victory.
